From Tech Skills to Work Experience: Explore Tech Unlimited’s Career Ladder
Finding a career path takes time. Young people need opportunities to explore their interests, build skills, practice working with others, and gain real experience.
At Tech Unlimited, our Career Ladder gives neurodiverse students a pathway to do just that.
Students can start by exploring technology in a supportive environment and move toward portfolio-building projects, client work, and internships. Each experience builds on the skills and confidence developed along the way.
A Pathway That Grows With Students
There is no single starting point or path every student has to follow. Students can join the program that fits their age, interests, skills, and goals.
Our pathway includes:
1. Tech Knowledge Workshops
Explore technology and discover new interests.
Students learn new technology skills through hands-on projects while meeting peers with similar interests. Workshops are offered in person and virtually.
2. Creative Tech Internship
Explore new tech skills while earning school credit.
Students gain experience in a structured internship setting while exploring technology. Participants may be able to earn high school or college credit.
3. Digital Agency
Put your skills to work on real client projects.
Students work virtually as part of a team led by tech mentors. They collaborate on projects for real clients while practicing communication, teamwork, and other workplace skills.
4. Level Up Tech Pathways
Go deeper into a technology field.
Students develop skills in a specific area of technology and complete projects they can add to their portfolios.
5. CRISP
Take your skills into a real workplace.
Through the Career Ready Internship Summer Program (CRISP), interns are placed with external worksites for 15–20 hours per week. This experience gives young people an opportunity to practice professional skills in a real work environment.
6. CRISP Lab
Build experience through a client project.
Students work together on a project for a client with guidance from mentors, building hands-on experience with teamwork, deadlines, feedback, and project development.
Tech Skills and Workplace Skills Go Together
Career readiness is about more than knowing how to use technology.
Across Tech Unlimited programs, students practice communication, collaboration, problem-solving, self-advocacy, and other social-emotional skills alongside technical skills. Our programs are designed with neurodiverse learners in mind and give students opportunities to learn through hands-on projects and supportive guidance.
As students move through the Career Ladder, they take on greater independence and responsibility—from learning a new tool to creating portfolio projects, working with clients, and gaining experience at external worksites.
The Career Ladder Doesn’t End With an Internship
Students and alumni can stay connected through the Plugged In Network, with opportunities for resume building, networking, and continued connection to the Tech Unlimited community.
The goal isn’t for every student to follow the exact same path. It’s to give young people multiple opportunities to explore what interests them, build on their strengths, and take meaningful steps toward their next stage.
