Open Positions for Social Workers, Occupational Therapists, Mental Health Counselors, Speech Language Pathologists for Social Emotional Support Team

 Job Type: Part-time (Summer Position)

Job Location: In-Person

Tech Unlimited is an educational nonprofit dedicated to empowering neurodiverse students ages 10–24 through creative tech, work-readiness, and social-emotional skills-based programming.

We are seeking licensed social workers, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, and mental health counselors to join our Social Emotional Support team. In this role, you will work directly with our students to support their social and emotional learning goals through structured, small-group workshops. The Social Emotional team serves as the primary point of contact for families and provide individualized student support as needed.

Our workshops are creative, technology, and career-focused, led collaboratively by tech teachers and support staff. The Social Emotional Support team plays a key role in ensuring our programs take a holistic approach to build both the technical and interpersonal skills students need to thrive.

TU offers both online and in-person workshops at our location in Downtown Brooklyn.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the team to design short, targeted activities that reinforce student growth in areas such as self-regulation, self-management, and relationship building.
  • Observe and document students’ strengths and challenges, maintaining records of medical information disclosed by families.
  • Validate and normalize students’ feelings and concerns, helping them feel seen and supported in the classroom environment.
  • Support students in managing frustration, overwhelm, or emotional dysregulation, and help them learn to recognize and communicate early signs of distress.
  • Communicate regularly with teachers and classroom staff about individual student needs, offering guidance on how to best support those students.
  • Assist staff in navigating sensitive situations involving student comments, interactions, or behaviors.
  • Take attendance and contact families promptly regarding unexpected absences, lateness, incidents, or concerning behaviors, always copying administrators on communications.
  • In the event of a minor injury or incident, notify the administrator on duty and submit a written incident report describing what occurred.
  • Lead the headcount process during evacuations or fire drills to ensure all students are accounted for.
  • Attend Tech Unlimited staff training meetings and professional development opportunities.

‍Qualifications and Skills

  • A degree in social work, occupational therapy, speech-language pathology, mental health counseling, or a related field is required.
  • Active licensure (e.g., LCSW, OTR/L, CCC-SLP, LMHC) is preferred; candidates who are actively working toward licensure are welcome to apply.
  • Experience working with neurodiverse individuals is required.
  • Experience working with youth, teens, and young adults in an educational or youth development setting is required.
  • Experience with crisis management or addressing challenging behaviors is required.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Genuine passion for supporting and encouraging young people.
  • Self-motivated and collaborative team player who approaches their work with patience and professionalism.
  • Knowledge of classroom management or youth development best practices is a plus.

Compensation

  • Hourly rate: $30 per hour
