Tech Teaching Artist
Teachers lead technology and digital media art workshops for neurodiverse youth, teens and young adults. In this part-time role, Lead Teaching Artists are responsible for designing and delivering engaging, inclusive curriculum across a variety of tech-focused topics. All instructors receive training and ongoing support from TU’s Education Team to ensure alignment with our inclusive pedagogical model for neurodiverse learners. Programs are offered year-round and vary by season, with virtual and in-person workshops held at our Downtown Brooklyn location.
TU offers both online and in-person workshops at our location in Downtown Brooklyn.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Create inclusive lesson plans for workshops that may range from single sessions to a series of workshops, depending on the program. Submit all curriculum materials to the Education Team for review within the established deadlines.Lead workshops to groups of approximately 15 neurodiverse students with varying needs. Ensure that lessons are engaging, inclusive and aligned with TU’s pedagogical model.
- Maintain a structured, supportive, and respectful learning environment through effective classroom management strategies.
- Work closely with assistant teachers, tech counselors, social workers and occupational therapists to ensure student success and workshop quality.
- Communicate issues or incidents to administrators for support.
- Attend occasional staff training and professional development meetings to strengthen instructional skills and stay aligned with organizational best practices.
Qualifications and Skills
- 3–5 years of teaching experience with elementary, middle school, high school, and/or college-aged students in school or out-of-school learning environments.
- Experience working with neurodiverse students or individuals with disabilities.
- Experience developing and implementing accessible lesson plans and instructional materials.
- Demonstrated ability to create inclusive, supportive classroom environments that accommodate diverse learning styles and ability levels.
- Adaptability and a willingness to learn and teach new technology topics based on program needs.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent time management skills, including punctual attendance and timely submission of lesson materials.
Preferred
- Experience delivering instruction in work-based readiness or career exploration programs, especially in contexts serving youth and young adults.
- Experience teaching digital media subjects such as graphic design, music production, video editing, game design, coding, or similar disciplines.
- Familiarity with both in-person and virtual teaching formats.
- Knowledge of classroom management strategies and/or youth development best practices.
- Work authorization in the U.S. is required for this role.
Time Expectations & Program Types
- Weeklong Summer Workshops (flexible shifts)
- What: Weeklong tech art workshops topics such as digital art, filmmaking, audio production, game design, and animation. Each week has a different theme, like “game design,” with the morning being digital games, and the afternoon being table top games – thus the lessons for the morning and afternoon are different.
- Ages: 10 – 24, classrooms separated by age (youth and teens + y/a)
- When: July 14 – August 15, Monday – Friday, from 9:30 AM – 4:30 PM
- We are looking for educators to commit to a full week at a time of our weeklong programs. You may be able to work multiple weeks depending on availability. You can work a full day or half day, shift times below.
- Morning Shift: 9:30 AM – 1:00 PM
- Afternoon Shift: 1:00 PM – 4:30 PM
- Career Readiness Internship Summer Program (CRISP)
- What: Program teaching career readiness skills, participants work with an internship site on various tech related projects (websites, newsletter updates, graphic design, user research, and more).
- Ages: 16 – 24
- When: July 7 – August 15, Monday – Friday, from 9:30 AM – 3:30 PM.
- We are looking for educators to commit to all six weeks of the program and work the full session.
- CRISP Lab
- What: Program where a cohort works on a project together while learning collaborative workplace readiness skills.
- Ages: Ages 16 – 24
- When: Runs July 7 – July 25, Monday – Friday, from 9:30 AM – 1:00 PM
- We are looking for educators to commit to all three weeks of the program and work the full session.
Compensation & Benefits
Hourly teaching rate: $75 per hour (prep time is included in the hourly teaching rate)
Note: Tech Unlimited is also hiring Assistant Teachers for upcoming programs. The rate for Assistant Teachers is $35 per hour.
